I just got a SATA WD3200JD drive.

I've isntalled it on Sata1 on my MSI K8N Neo2

windows recognized the drive as a removable storage device. but it does NOT show up under My computer or under Disk management.

I used teh windows xp pro disk to go in and create a 305gb partition on it thinking maybe then windows will see it as a drive.

Nope. Do I need to format it under the windows install disk? but won't it try to install xp on it when teh format finishes?

Do I need to install a SATA driver for a standalone harddrive?

I've enver had a single SATA hdd on this mobo, only my RAID array w/ the raptors and that required its only seperate RAID and SATA drivers.

how do I get it to show up? lol i'm brain farting hardcore here
 
my SATA Plextor PX716 SA dvd burner doesn't need a driver tho.

I'll have to get my hands on partition magic and see what I can find.

Any other ideas or suggestions?
 
Just wanted to post an update:

I got it working finally with teh help from a friend and his suggestions!

Originally, i'd get the RAID array on SATA 1/2. I later changed it to SATA 3/4 so that I could overclock the CPU.

Well, I never took the SATA RAID setting off SATA 1/2 in the BIOS.

Once I turned off the RAID setting on those ports, it worked first try.
