A guy I work with just built himself a brand new computer, when I asked him what he was gonna do with the old one, he obviously hadn't thought about it. So.. I got dibs.

I paid $175 for:
tall case with modular bays, hinged side cover, 400w power supply, 1g AMD Duron, MSI mobo, 640 mb ram, Yamaha CD-RW and a 50x CDrom, Soundblaster Audigy2 (the one with the panel in the front, 2 knobs, 7 various inputs, etc), GeForce 2 video card, Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard.

Not too bad, eh? all I had to do was get one of my spare HDD's I had sitting around, format it, imaged the drive in my fiance's existing computer over to my spare.. and it's good to go:)

So.. for her birthday, she's getting this machine to replace the ones she's currently using (P2 266mhz 64mb Ram, 4gb hdd) ...

so, for a $175, a 1ghz machine with cd burner, and pretty good components :D

man, I had a bunch of typos when I typed that! The fiance was walking around, and asked 'what are you typing?'.. of course, the computer is for her birthday in a couple weeks, so I just had to give my typical response... "oh, I'm on that geek website again asking computer questions" .. she bought it :)

sooo...you still haven't posted how high you were able to overclock it;)

Just another sucker buying stuff for his woman. So how much have you dumped on her so far? I'll guess $5k minimum. When you wanna be dj's out there gonna learn?

gee, good thing you're not harboring any grudges or anything :)

actually, she's my fiance... we've been together for almost 3 years, and we're getting married in July. I don't think $175 is a lot of money for a birthday present..

Sounds like you could use a counselor .. .you gotta work through that bitterness!!

Anyways... I think she'll be pleasantly surprised with it!!

I have bitterness but it's directed at my friends, not woman. I just have friends that try to buy every woman they come in contact with. One of them has over 50k on credit cards due to this. It really frustrates me to no end to sit back and watch it happen.

a women who really likes you pays for herself:D

it that was true no one would be married:rolleyes:

only one could hope;)

I can understand that. Anyone who is just trying to 'buy a woman' is an idiot. However, if it's someone you care about, it's great to buy them something. And, since he's engaged to her, I'm guessing he probably cares about her. (I'd hope so, anyway :p )

Trying to "buy a girl" is one thing. Buying a gift for someone you love is completely different. :)

I don't know what their rational is. Yes they are trying to "buy them" but its not as sinister as you make it sound. It's more like they can't help themselves and find the hardluck woman that have no quelms taking advantage of that weakness. I'm not talking about paying her way on a date, this goes much further then that. It's more like a deer caught the headlights or a fly in a spiders snare kind of thing.

Yeh well as long as my woman gives me what i want in bed i'll give her anything. (under $30 that is :D) Then everything is good

Under $30? I'll help buy it as long as it's underware. I'll even go with her when she tries it on. I'll call it the sex for underwear plan.
