Westinghouse 42" Troubles

I currently have my Westinghouse 42" 1080 connected to a computer and I am having the following issues.

1. I have the monitor connected to DVI 1 with a ATI 1650 512mb card and whenever I restart the computer or change resolutions in a game, the screen comes back totally scrambled. Through about 4 days of trial and error I discovered that turning the display off then on again is the only surefire fix. Has anyone else with either the 37 or 42 come across this? I have the three year extended warranty with crutchfield, is this something I should consider or just brush off as a minor annoyance?

2. When I connect with DVI 2, the image is shifted upwards by a few pixels. I get a bar of blackness at the bottom and my mouse dissapears at the top of the screen. I have a new computer arriving on monday so I plan to use both DVI connections. Is this something powerstrip can fix? It happens with both my roommates computers as well (both core 2 duo, one 7950 and one 8800).

Thanks.

You may of got one with old firmware. I know some of the earlier releases had that problem. If it were me id RMA it.

I'll have to check later today since I'm at work, but I'm fairly certain I have firmware version 1.0. I may give Westinghouse a call to see what they say.

I had that TV (now have the 47) and also had that issue. It isn't just your set as most all of the 42"s and some 47"s also have that problem. The scramble thing is an annoyance, but by changing input or turning on and off (as you mentioned) does get rid of it. So it's just that, an annoyance. It isn't a hardware issue with your set.

Also the DVI upshift is also present on just about all 42"s and again is not specific to your hardware.

I would just use the DVI that scrambles and deal with the scramble issue and use the other DVI for PS3 or Cable. Do yourself a favor and don't bother calling Westinghouse, it will pretty much be a complete waste of time. There are no fixes available and most likely they will blame your PC (or PS3, cablebox, DVD player etc)

Would using a program like powerstrip possibly solve the upshifting problem? I'd really like to be able to effectively use both DVI inputs.

thanks,

Go into your control panel and set it so the video card does all the scaling, that should prevent any scrambling with resolution changes. Ideally you should set games to use the same resolution as well, although that may not be an option with a slow video card.

Double check, but the Westy 47" says that only DVI 1 does 1080P DVI 2 ONLY goes up to 1080i. This could be why you are having some of the problems on DVI 2 as the 42 could be similar in this respect.

Thanks, but I don't think that's it, DVI most certainly displays 1920x1080 in 60 hertz, but it has weird errors. I'm still trying to get to the bottom of it all.

I have the 47 and it does 1080p over both DVI ports, no shifting.
