i've got 2 WD1600 caviar drive first they were striped in an array and they ran fine for a year or so then one day it crashed when i restarted the computer and the RAID chipset was detecting the drives it would say degraded array or something along those lines, but if you turned the computer off for a few hours and turned it back on you could get lucky and it would work. so i backed up all my data and ran the western digital diagnostic software on it...it didn't pick anything up it said the drives were fine.

so i reformatted the drives and ran them as a mirrored array, ran fine for a few months...then same problem...

its an nvidia nforce 4 raid controller if it makes any difference

if the error is interchangeable with different hard disks then it's your controller.. is ur mobo under warranty? because u need a nu one...

Are you sure that it is not the TLER issue that WD drives have in RAID arrays?

I have found that the nForce4 Raid and WD do not mix well. I bought an Asus nForce4 board when they first came out. The Raid controller is the only part of the board that does not work excellent. After having the same type of problems I switched to a Raid card and have never looked back because I never lost my array again.

details please? what is this issue?

Search, it's a common issue with WD drives in RAID setups. WD countered this issue by introducing RE drives or "Raid Edition".

I would recomend that you pull the drives from eachother and run them seperatley... You are not gaining performance gains much and can actually be running slower. Just pull them appart and you should be all set.
