So the other day I had a Raptor drive die on me after a few years of faithful service. Went to WD to RMA the drive. I was going to just one for one swap them, but I noticed that they off upgrade deals to upgrade from my old 74gig Raptor. Long story short, they knock a wopping $3 off THEIR price of a new drive.... some customer discount. No thanks, I will take another 74gig Raptor for $0, but nice trick WD. Hell the Egg retail price is under WDs "discounted price". Thanks WD!

So wait, are you saying they will not replace the drive under warranty? Or that you want to upgrade the drive instead?

No, they will honor the warranty. I was commenting on their loyalty upgrade option. I just thought that the program was a joke since the "upgrade" price is $3 less than their retail prices. If I wanted to upgrade my defective 74gb drive to a 600gb drive it would cost me $259. If I didn't have the 74gb drive to upgrade, the 600gb drive would run me $262. I just wonder if WD screwed up the discount or if that is how much they care about customer loyalty?

I am returning the 74gb drive for the warranty replacement of the same model. They can keep the $3 discount.
