i have a western digital hdd i installed windows on it last night turned my pc on now it wont load into windows so i installed again and restarted and again wont boot into windows this is the secoind w/d drive thats done this to me i will never buy from them again to use as a main drive only storage
 
Very compelling - especially the total lack of sentance structure.

Do you think maybe there's a factor involved besides the manufacturer? There are a number of much more likely suspects:

drive mishandling
the PSU it's attached to
if there's adequate power protection between the computer and the outlet
software issues
user error

and that's just the short list. The fact that the first thing you did was reinstall Windows makes me seriously doubt you're qualified to make any kind of judgement about the manufacturer's quality in general.
 
When you say wont boot to Windozes does it Hang, Reboot, BSOD, Not find drive or what ?
Are you error free in Memtest86 ?
Have you run a disk checker to test the drive for errors ?

it just hangs there im just installed windows on my seagate and restarted it 10 times and wow each time it loaded into windows no problem i will never buy w/d again changing all the hdd in my machines with new one this week so expect to see alot of hdd from western didgital for sale after i rma all the drives for being crap.
 
I have been running 2 raptors in Raid for about 2 years now straight. Not a problem. So I dunno what you are talking about.

Ever think it could be something else perhaps? o_0
 
I agree that more investigation is required here, particularly on your power supply. The FX5900 is known to be a power hog, as are Prescotts. There may not be enough +12 to go around, especially with three HDs and two optical drives in the box as well. Also, verify that your RAM is good - your sticks of BH5 may require additional voltage to be stable, even at 'stock' DDR400 speeds, and RAM corruption may be scramblign the contents of your drives.

To summarize:

A) Run MemTest86
B) Post back here what brand of PSU you are using, and how much current it can deliver on +12V. Watts don't matter here.
C) Load Defaults in your CMOS setup utility and try again.
 
I've found every drive manufacturer to be equally faulty (except for the IBM deathstar fiasco)...but as others have suggested, I also think there is something else happening here...do some troubleshooting before putting another drive in.

If you are overclocked, your pci/agp lock my not be working and everything on the drives is getting corrupted

I would start with a VERY well KNOWN and amazingly helpful tool called GOOGLE :p
Maybe try [abit is7-er sata drivers for WD] take the funny looking things off the begining and end and paste into the slot on googles seach area
Then before you say how do i get them to work, type that into google. :cool: I hope this helps.
This person reminds me of my favorate customer, We had to replace his stereo/cd changer due to theft, We put brand new better upgraded parts in the car. The ASStard picks up the car, the next day we get a call from his insurance agent and the main insurance office asking why we put NON working parts in the customers car? he called both of them and screamed Bloody murder about how we suck cannot beleive they refered him there etc.. We asked them to call the nice man up and ask him to come back so we can see what his problem is, He shows up 2 days later screaming in the office in front of other customers yada dada you f ers blah blah... My CD changer does not play! I go out to the car with him and put key in ignition turn on player top see the read out says NO CD, I open the trunk and see the CD changer has NO FUKIN CD's in it. I ask ah do you know there needs to be CD's in it to play? He said ah ............they were there before they were stolen...??? FUKIN ASSCLOWN He assumed they would i guess come with the changer? I took him back into the office and spoke as Loud a voice as I could so the other customers in the office could hear WHY his shit didnt work, EVERY one laughed and keeled over! Fukin people amaze me.....
 
ive tried the sata drivers for my mobo and so far nothing works can someone help and yes i do crap on w/d i dont like there hdd ive had to rma to many of there ide hdds before and well maybe a couple sata hdds now
 
Also, investigate a BIOS update. Sometimes they can fix issues like this.

Why would someone who above mentions has had to RMA MANY of the WD's HD buy another? and way above mentions how his other makers HD works perfect? :confused:

Hers another one, Guy buys brand new truck, crash's on his way home from dealer, We get truck towed in do 5K of work on it, he picks up truck to call 3 days later Running his mouth about how we suck his truck broke down! im sueing blah blah We tow in to find out he ran out of gas..... ? I guess the salesman forgot to tell him they dont make ever lasting gas tanks that fill up by them on there own.... PEople AMAZE ME
 
WD is the best, and if not the quite best brand of HDD in some people's opinions they still respect their quality. You can't go blaming something for not working just because it's a particular brand. Ask anyone around here, and if you continue to be so hard-headed see how much help you get from these [H] members.
 
Maybe u should explain the detailed procedure you followed installing windows to us in a calm manner. That way we may be able to figure out if you missed a step or not.

Did you copy the driver onto a floppy?
Did you press F6 at the beginning of the windows installation?
Do you have the right SATA driver?
Have you changed your motherboards bios at all, cause IIRC the sata portion of the bios has to match up with the SATA driver.
Have you set you're bootup sequence correctly?

Bashing a company that many people including myself have never had a problem with before is a definite way to make sure your thread is derailed.
 
yes i got the drivers no i have never touched my bios and i have installed the drivers but it keeps freezing @ installing network devices any ideas

I might not be able to help you out with this, as I have never owned an Intel product. Not because I'm I !!!!!!, I just like to go against the grain. Maybe you could try the Abit forums. I'm sure there's been someone with the same problem as you, and the Abit forums might be a best place to find a solution.
 
Next problem in line could be your RAM, try and make a floppy with memtest on it and run it for a bit.
 
Also if it's hanging at installing network devices, can you maybe try and disable you onboard NIC, while installing? Should be an option in the bios for that. Just a suggestion.

Do you have them set correct in the bios? Master~ slave boot order?
Try un plugging the second and only use the primary and see if it boots

SATA is a bitch but I hate to buy another IDE drive. Especially shit over 120 gigs. Ugh. As far as WD drives go I LOVE my raptors but I HATE the last 250 retail drive I bought. WD Enterprise stuff seems ace to me, I am not touching their retail stuff again, or anybodies for that matter as Doug taught me, Seagate is the gateway to an ocean of smooth sailing.

I've owned a but load of WD drives. They are my harddrive of choice. But that's just me. And the only time I've ever had to RMA a WD was after it started the "click of Death". Even then it would run for a few months.

And I'm running 4 WD SATA drives on an ABIT IC7-MAX3 mobo right now, again no problems. I did have to RMA the mobo because it lost it's PATA IDE controller. But that just lost my optical drives not the hard drive.

i just looked up a new bios and all it does is adds cpu micro codes what is this

That just adds to the processor list for CPU's that have come out since the mobo was made.

Have you tried the drive in another computer?

It might just be this combination that wont work.

Wow, good thing you warned us before anyone else may have bought one of these "westenr digital" drives. Guess there's no chance you may have set something up wrong. :rolleyes:

Nevermind the fact that I have 5 WD drives in my computer, 2 in my brother's, and 1 in my sister's and they're all working fine.

Yeah, their enterprise level drives are really nice, but their retail stuff is garbage.

I can’t agree with that, I have over 30 WD drives running 24/7 with no issues. Some SATA, some PATA and many are in a mixed setup.

My first bad experience with SATA was my first RAPTOR and quite frankly it was my fault. I DIDN”T READ THE MOTHER BOARD INSTRUCIONS.

I find most people don’t.

Each manufacture has their own little tricks for a successful install and I’m willing to bet good money that the original poster never read his manual. Baring actually reading the manual the next best choice is as mentioned “google”. There you will find detailed, and sometimes-polite answers to all the mistakes you made during your fist failed attempts at an SATA install.

After that you get to feel stooopid, but your computer will work ;)
 
yes i did read my mobo booklet but i have goten it down to my mobo when pluged in to the internet it will not boot into windows when it isnt plugged into the net works fine but freezes everylike 15 min rma the boarfd this week
