Werid drive access problem (WinXP)

Hi,

my current workstation has 3 hdds, all SATA:
1. my boot drive, a 74GB raptor
2. my 'local data' drive a WD3200KS
3. a 'backup' drive a Maxtor DM10 300GB drive.

Whenever I open an explorer window to my 'local data' drive via My computer->e:\
I have to wait a noticeable amount of time before being able to click on any folder. It also shows up as a "Video folder" (i.e. the sidebar shows 'video tasks'). Is the video folder thing slowing down my access or is it normal that there is quite a bit of initial delay? If the video folder thing is slowing it down, how do I make it faster?

If windows is trying to do one of it's "useful features" by showing extra content, that can indeed induce a delay. In Tools/Folder Options, try switching to windows classic folders, and also switch the view from thumbnails to list, if that's what it's set as.

I have my view set to details (I hate thumbnails), since that is how I am most comfortable browsing. I will see how classic folders affect it, thanks.

I do prefer details as well, but for a large folder full of media, windows is going to be trying to pull a lot of information in details mode. List avoids this
