Well, I never thought Id have to write in here but I guess poop happens.

Just built a new system after many years of being out of the game and decided to OC just a wee bit for extra oomph.
I got my AMD x4 830 up to 3.2ghz no problem and was going to go further but thought Id dabble in my GPU OC first.
I have an ATI HD 5870. Bumped up the core clock from 850 to 900 and memory to 1300 I believe. For whatever reason I decided to try a little more, to no avail. The second I bumped it higher ( I think I did memory ) my screen turned to a mass of vertical lines and froze. So I rebooted and went back in and tried again but within a smaller interval. Same thing happens. SO I reboot again and thought I would just bump everything down to about 875/1275 just to be safe. Problem is, I cant start a damn program without those lines coming back and my system pretty much freezing up and making me reboot.

Computer still boots up fine, 100%. Safe mode obviously works just fine as well.

Any thoughts as to what I did here and what I can do fix it?
 
Take it back to stock and see how it is seems to be the logical step to take.

Can't you uninstall the video card to make your system go back to integrated graphics and then uninstall catalyst drivers, then reinstall the 5870 and reinstall the drivers?
 
Ill try that again when I get home but as stated, everything i tried to open yesterday would just lock up the computer. Yet windows loads fine and all that.
 
Try Safe Mode? What are you using to OC? If afterburner I would just go into Safe Mode and uncheck apply at startup. I always turn off the startup option when im testing my OC until I know its stable.

Please read the single sentence of my post and notice the word "stock". There is no sense troubleshooting while the core and RAM are overclocked, is there? :confused:
