So a while ago I toasted my 3.0c by overvolting. Convinced I just needed a new CPU, tonight I bought a 2.8 (I really wanted a 2.4 but they were fresh out) for 1420 pounds ($208 USD).
I set everything up, and to my dismay, it does the same thing it did with my supposedly fried 3.0: nothing. The little green light on the board (P4P800 Dlx) lights up when it's plugged in, but nothing is turning on when I hit the switch.
I took all the PCI cards out, disconnected the drives except for HDD, took one stick of RAM out (and tried it with either stick), and of course nothing. Took out my 9700 and stuck a GF2 in and nothing.
I just bought that 2.8 -- in Egypt, which isn't saying much -- so I doubt that's the culprit. I figure I took the board with my 3.0; in fact, the 3.0 may not have anythign wrong with it at all. I have fried boards where the CPU was perfectly fine.
The only things I haven't swapped out is the RAM (none other than my own to try) and the PSU, which does make the board light up when plugged in. I also don't have another board to try the 3.0 in.
This @#@# is lame, and getting expensive. There's a P4C800 Deluxe here, which kicks ass, but it's probably expensive as hell. Also, Egyptians have a no-return policy so I probably can't return anything I buy.
Suggestions?
