Well, I finally ordered it.. A 510 Deluxe SLI

I've been sitting on the fence for the last could of days about which PSU I should get for my new (semi) "Uber" system.. My reason for being hesitant isn't so much the price, but the noise. I've read reports that the PCP&C 510's are pretty noisy and that's what I'm trying to stay away from.. Here's the specs on my new system..

MSI K8N Neo2
Athlon 64 3200
1GB PQI 2-2-2-5 PC3200
Chenbro Gaming Bomb II (Black)
NEC 3520 DVD Burner (Beige, no just kidding.... Black)
Lite-on DVD Reader (From Old system)
2 x 36GB Raptors (From Old system)
Radeon 9700 Pro (From Old System)
Logitech MX1000 (Read reports that some units have issues. I hope I get a good one)
2 x SilverStone 120mm Fans (Newegg #N82E16811999342)
1 x Vantec ThermoFlow 92mm fan to put in the top of the gaming bomb (Newegg #N82E16811999617)

And for cooling.....
Swiftech Watercooling kit w/120mm rad and GPU block. This is the kit that comes with the new MCP350 pump that's supposed to kick so much ass..

I wanted to get a fairly future proof sysem that I can upgrade in 6 months or so when the new(er) generation of video cards are out. At that time all I have to upgrade will be the Motherboard, Video Card, and Maybe the CPU. But, I'm hoping to get a good o/c out of this one...

So, lemme know what you think.. Did I do good my ordering the PCP&C?? Or Do I even need to ask?? :D

Im sure you and the new missus will be very happy together :p

Congrats! BTW, how much did your UPS cost?

The UPS cost me nothing actually..

I did some work for a company who had a bunch of Workstation UPS's powering their servers. When they upgraded to Liebert Rack Mount UPS's they gave me a Smart UPS 1000 for free.

It's been plugged into an ONEAC Power Conditioner for it's whole life, so I think it should be in good shape. I might replace the batteries in a few months or so. They're only about a year old though.

Right now it's powering my Alarm Clock.. Nothing but the best for my $9 alarm clock..

lol

i wish i had the cash to afford one of those. my a64 setup is gonna be choking on my generic 300W until i can upgrade it to a good neopower or something

Setback....

PCP&C just emailed me and said they are out of stock until the 12th. I wonder how that can be because I called them 15 minutes before to see if I could get a quieter fan installed (Which they can't do BTW). The lady told me they had PLENTY of stock..

Congrats, by the way they realy are not that loud at all. Oh and dont wory, I ordered on the 30th and they said i would not get one until the 7th. Mine showed on the 3rd

Looks like their next shipment will be on Wednesday. Here is the response from PCP&C.

Good Afternoon. I am sorry you were mis-informed but we have been out of
the SLI power supplies since the 26th of December.

We have a production run that will be completed Wednesday of next week and
do apologize for the delay and any inconvenience this may cause you.

the rumor I heard was that alienware bought all the intial production runs up for SLi boxes

the veracity of that being unknown

Totaly wrong (what they said) Or i was drunk and ordered before xmas eve and not new years? lol :D , i got mine on the 3rd, it has no less than 6 sata connectors two black 6pin power interfaces for the new sli cards and a shit load of standard molex,Finally it has a 24 pin main with a 20 pin adaptor, I will wager a grand then take a picture of it. Don't laugh at the wiring , its a new case and i dont have the rest of my sli rig yet. I stuffed my p4 in her in a hurry and i am not doing two wireing jobs. First shot show the sli power connectors, second the unit and the third the 24 pin to 20 to adapt it to my current board.

I can find the bill of laden i think its at work (where they shipped it to) and i will look for it but I can assure you its an sli unit and I got it on Monday Jan 3rd. They told me a shipment would not go out until the 5th so i was very surprised to recieve it on the 3rd

For your edification the Lian li is a sudo btx so everything is back wards. The ribbon cable is for the Audigy ZS Front panel , the ata133s is for the optical drives and I am sure you recognize the sata cables

I dont consider them that loud. I got one and my fan for my HS is louder.... Stockie one that comes with the boxed 3400...

as a side note, doesnt that ribbon cable for the audigy2 just burn you up? :D

$160 sound card and a 20 cent cable....

It sure does. You would think they would do somehting about that. at least do an Asus black or something

It connects the SB Live card to the Live Drive unit that is placed in your 5 1/4 drive bay for frontmount headphone, mic, volume control, firewire access.

They retail for $200, can be found online for ~$150 but they use a plain old POS ribbon cable. Makes a tidy case look out of place

I got my PSU on Tuesday and of course I had to put it in right away... It's a VERY nice unit and comes with tons of cables and my ONLY quibble with it is that the fan in the back isn't exactly "loud" my any means, but it "groans". It's sounds like an old fan in a computer that has too much dust in it and about to fail (just not as "extreme")

Does anyone know if PCP&C uses PWM to control the fan? If so, I know there are some fans that "groan" when used with PWM. This might be the case.. I'm running prime right now in an effort to speedup the fan and see if the groaning changes.. I'll report back my findings..

Oh, BTW.. The fan that I got with it is a Delta EFB0812EF.

I talked with a very higher-up at pcp&c (hint, name starts with L) for over an hour the other day and that's true. I learned some very interesting things about the differences between them and the others (very techincal stuff I may post about it later) and something VERY interesting about the next issue of maxpc involving SLI, a neopower, and a boom ;)

Bah, the only reason I came into this thread was because I thought the topic said "I've finally done it: PCP&PC". And I was like: "Hmm... angel dust and PC? Sounds like there's a good story here."

Well, the noise doesn't seem to change with the speed of the fan. There is always this "errrrrrrrr" sound, but it's not loud. It just gets on the nerves after awhile. I'd like to replace the fan with something quieter.

I know this might deminish the output of the PSU, but I didn't buy it to get 510 continuous watts (which I don't need I might add) I bought it to get a 1% tolerance and a quality power supply.

Any input on what would be a good fan to act as a replacement? I'm open to all suggestions!!

Thanks!!
Riley

OT: Guys it is very simple to round your own Audigy 2 cable. I just did it this weekend. I agree they should have done it from the factory, but it is very easy. Just pop off one of the connectors noting the red wire and the connector orientation (I made a diagram to be sure), then start with a razor blade about 1/4 of an inch down, starting between the wires. Cut about an inch or two right inbetween the wires (where the cable is thinnest) then simply pull them apart to the bottom (not all the way tho! leave about 1/4 inch at the bottom also) Then take sleeving of your choice when you have done all the wires, and some heatshrink and woila!

And to the origional poster, I believe this place has the power supply you are looking for in stock:

Performance PCs

Glad to see ya took the dive :) I always like to see someone buy extremely good parts....makes me faithful that not 'everyone' wants a 550watt PSU with 20A on the 12V rail.....altho this IS the [H] :D

I was debating getting the 510 Deluxe for my system but I really couldn't justify the extra $60, plus the OCZ 520W PowerStream has adjustable rails (which I like alot) and is really quiet too....damn thing has a green fan tho that totally clashes with the rest of my blue fans/LEDs....but meh, gives it charecter i say.

pcp&c has externally adjustable rails too, why does it seem that hardly anyone knows that?

the ocz should suffice however

1. only the deluxe has them
2. they arent "external" they are little holes you stick a screw driver into :p

but I think I'll drill a few holes in my enclosure to match ;)
