My secondary computer's 8800GTX is going to blow up soon. Or at least fail in some unspectacular way....which would probably be easier to clean up after, but not as exciting. So after much thought or no thought at all, going from considering another 8800gtx on the cheap to a GTX275 or a 4890 to replace the GTX260 in my main rig and move the GTX260 to the secondary....I ended up getting a GTX285 instead. It all made sense at the time.

Then I thought....."hell, why not go ahead and make the plunge into i7 now" and after looking at all sorts of x58 boards at the $250 range, I ended up with an EVGA Classified, i7 920 (rolling the dice on D0 from newegg) and cheap OCZ ram (CPU/memory combo deal...comes with some game I porbably stop playing slightly after I load it and 8gb USB stick that I could make use of...wanted cheap ram now, but will get some killer fabulous ram later and use cheap ram as back-up). All this happened because my $600 8800GTX is about to maybe blow up.

I do have a question though. I ordered the non-NF200 EVGA board. At most, I will only SLI two vid cards (GT300s???!! maybe) and physX the GTX285. I think NF200 was taken out because of heat issues? Well ok, so I get a cooler running mobo now, but what did I lose with not having NF200?

I think [H] did a review regarding NF200 and showed that it made no difference in SLI performance and just caused increase heat usage...

So I think you made the better choice... funny how you go from a bad video-card to a whole new rig...

Looking for an X58 board in the $250 range and opting for a $400 board instead?

$600 8800GTX?

Thanks Blaze, makes me feel better about going with the non-NF200. And yah, my budget was lower, but hopefully this build will last 1 to 2 years with minor upgrades (GT300s!!!$#??) and in the course of 1 to 2 years $150 extra is a consideration, but not a show stopper. I decided that if I went with the $250 board, I would regret it later and always think..."damn, I shoulda got the rampage II extreme or the classified" . I already have enough regrets so I got what I wanted. Plus I went on a bunch of deployments recently that was all high perdium and as much alcohol and lap dances as I got, I still made some extra money after doing the travel claims lol

Yes, $600 for an 8800GTX (ok, actually not sure if I paid $550 or $650...but somewhere in there...) It was a while ago and I was one of the people that got it in the first week of release. Never again....unless I lose control again....cause it's sparkly and shiny and stuff.

Ya know what its youre money enjoy it how you want is all I can say, congrats man hope ya like the new rig. sad thing is i lose control all the time but its my money lol...

Whoops Wrong thread.

My 8800-GTX wnt out and MSI sent me this about my rma

Can we replace your card NX8800GTX-T2D768E-HD-OC to the NX8800GT-T2D1GE-OC card?

I replied I would like equal or better performance.. We will see what they say.

Specs Comparison

Toms has the 1 meg GT trailing the GTX in almost everything across the board.

It's more than just make: They retired the 'special edition' E759 one with the NF200. It's history. All new Classified boards (E760, aka E761) are NF200-free.
