Well, 939 cpus are in stock now, wheres my 939 version of the 250gb K8N Neo platinum?

Is the $80.00 savings on the CPU worth a more expensive motherboard and RAM, plus the extra latency of the ECC memory?

I say no....

939 chips don't need ECC RAM, and everything from budget 512k chips to 1mb top mhz crown FX uses the same exact mobos.

Kthx

I could be wrong but all FX chips require ECC ram to work.......

Sorta thought that was the reason behind the new 939 pin A64's

BUT he is looking at a s939 FX-53, which is just like a 3800+ but with a meg a cache.

Someone was trying to over-simplify it for you. All Socket 940 Athlon 64 FXes (FX-51, FX-53) require registered DDR RAM. ECC falls under the subset of registered RAM but is not interchangeable with the term registered RAM. The newly released Socket 939 FX-53 does not require registered RAM. The "vanilla" unbuffered DDR RAM will work fine, in pairs of course.

this is the only motherboard i've seen out right now for the 939's
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=240410

and here's a review of it
http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?...ns&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=30&page=1

and if you look at that review of the board, there's like no difference between a FX53 and a 3800+ so i dont think spending $80-100 more for a minimal performance increase isn't really worth it to me.

or if 400 more 3d2k1 marks is worth $100 to you, you can also look at it this way, if you're already paying for a $700 chip why not throw in the extra $100 for the top of the line.

either way it's win win, you'll end up with a kick ass cpu :p

On top of the 512kb more cache (~150MHz), you get completely unlocked multipliers. You'd have to be smoking crack to buy the 3800+ instead of the FX for S939.

I think the price of the 3800+ will drop though (new price gouge and wheres the P4 comp here) while the FX stays as-is until the next FX.

I would have expected some s939 mobo announcements by now. The motherboard manufacturers probably aren't confident that AMD will be able to mass-produce the 939's in large enough numbers.

I am looking forward to buying the s939 variant of the Abit KV8-MAX3, if it is ever released..

I would read around a bit first, especially note the posts made here in another thread by Kyle about the 939 pin boards and CPUs right now.

If you want to go ahead and blow the extra money on these initial 939 pin parts, it's certainly your cash to spend, but don't think you are going to get any major performance differences between them and something like the 754 pin 3400+, that is nothing you can actually feel vs some numbers in a benchmark. The extra 350-450 dollars would be better spent on other components in the system to improve performance, like additional RAM, better video card, and/or faster HDs.

not what i'm seeing, with the exception of serious sam, the other benchmarks are still close to where i don't see the FX53 being worth $100 more...and yes i did see that it was 650 3dmarks faster in this review, but i never look too deeply into synthetic benchmarks, i really only look at the game benchmarks

Only reason to get 939 FX53 is for overclocking, and even then you better get some good RAMs to keep it synced 1:1.

Though correct, other then that go 754, theres not much point. Except for the fact that theres no 2.4ghz part for 754 yet, which was the point I was waiting for it to pass before I took a step back into AMD's world.
