So last night our power blinked like twice then went off for about 30 minutes. I've got everything hooked up to a really nice surge protector so I know thats fine. But I had to reboot the computer like 4 times and unplug it once for about 10 minutes for everything to work properly... it would boot but everything would go INCREDIBLY slow like it wasn't done booting and just never finish.. any ideas? seems to be working lke normal now:confused:

Surge protectors only protect against HUGE surges like lightning strikes.

If you don't have a UPS your box gets hit with all sorts of power fluctuations both over and under.

Your PC took damage. If you are lucky, it's only some lost files and a repair/restore/re-install can fix it.

how come it seems to be workin fine now though? (i did install the new windows updates if that makes any difference)

It could be that Windows reverted to Last Known Good Configuration.

Count yourself lucky that you didn't fry your box

Go out and get a UPS. That is the only device that provides your box with clean, consistent 110v at 60 hz.

I agree with what has been said, it sounds like your box was hit by some prolonged over or under-voltage that may or may not have caused damage. Also there is, as always, the slight possibility that this is all a coincidence and your PSU just happened to start acting quirky at the same time you have a power incident.

Personally, I'd run diagnostics (surface scan the discs, run memory diags, stress the system for a 12 hours etc.) on everything to make sure nothing is awry, who knows what kind of nasty surprise may be waiting for you.

I agree, spend the rest of the day running diagnostics on your pc.

Hopefully, all is well.
