weirdest hard drive problem

Hi guys, recently my computer decided to take a dump, well the hard drive to be more specific. It all started when I installed a new NEC DVD burner and an extra gb of RAM into my pc. At first, everything started fine until I restarted the pc and Windows XP started to go through that chkdsk before Windows loadup. Being the impatient person I am, I hit ESC and it cancelled out, but then restarted. After restarting, the BIOS gave the error message, "disk boot failure please insert system disk." The mobo sees the hdd fine though so I didn't think it was a hardware problem. To confirm this, I ran a drive fitness test and the official Maxtor Powermax hdd diagnostics tests, both of which passed. Then I ran Memtest to check my new RAM and it passed like 6 times with no errors. Finally, I ran PC Check to check if my mobo was the issue but everything there checked out fine also. I inserted my Windows XP OEM cd and started to go through the whole install when I noticed that my hdd had its full 200 gb unpartitioned meaning everything was gone. Now, I really have no idea what is going on with my hdd. Keep in mind that this is like the 3rd time this hdd has done this to me. I also tried resetting the CMOS and the Recovery Console's "fixboot, fixmbr, chkdsk /r /p /whatever" but still nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.
