Weird video... THING... Font antialiasing?

Ok, my video card is as you see in my signature, the GFFX 6800 (non-ultra) essentially. This one is one of those with a pretty tolerable analog output (eg the filter isn't crappy on this one) so I don't THINK that's related to the problem. Besides, things are still basically clear. Anyway, what I have here is every now and then, seemingly completely 100% at random, my screen will just suddenly flash in 2D mode and the font just looks, well, weird from that moment for a pretty good while. Kind of a shadowed fuzzy look or something. Interesting thing is, a little while later it will just sort of slowly fade away too subtly to notice almost. I'm using a pretty high resolution here, so it's kind of hard to tell, but, it does rather tend to mess with the eyes when the font is suddenly going all funny on you. Oh, and ATM, no overclocking. Also, I'm not sure if it's related, but, every now and then, in certain games, I get a sort of horizontal line across a small part of the screen for something like one frame. It's not like the tearing from no vsync, but more of a sort of artifact. However, for one thing, my core & ambient temperature are FAR below any sort of danger zone (something like in the lower 50C range for the core under maximum load with overclocking turned on and somewhere in the range of 38 for "ambient" -- I loose track of it.) For another, this isn't quite the usual sort of artifact that you would see... It's almost just like it borrows a peice of another line far away from that one and puts it there too. I'll admit that it's also hard to tell in that case too since in most games I can get away with a pretty decently high resolution.

EDIT: Oh, do you think this could be related to the "shimmering" mentioned before? I'm using pretty recent drivers, but, if there is a newer version, I will update just as soon as I can get around to being able to reboot.

sure its not your monitor? if not, sounds like a hardware problem, i'd suggest rma if it is problematic. the split second horizontal line thing is normal, if you mean like on the farcry loading screen.

re: mr.mean they are so brief, random, and small it would be impossible to capture a screenshot of them

are you sure you dont need your eyes checked?

how about when it does that, turn your monitor off, then back on to see if it is monitor probs or vid card probs

Er, I'll remember to turn off the monitor, but, for the same reason I know it's obviously not eye related, I doubt it's the monitor. You see, it's far too precice. Eye or analog monitor problems would be a lot less precice than that. These are like one pixel wide or that sort of thing.

almost sounds like the nview font edge sharpening is being activated, but that is like an on/off switch it would not "fade away" over time.

Ok, you'll just have to forgive me on this, but, I realized that I am LITERALLY using the latest drivers. As in, beta. Ah well. Anyway, upon looking more carefully to make sure, I'm going to have to agree that it DEFINITELY is a font effect. It probably is that nVidia thing you mentioned. When I asked about this, I didn't realize that nVidia had their own little font anti-aliasing thing in there somewhere. I'm guessing that this is just a minor bug in the betas and nothing major to worry about. I really don't want to imagine it could be a hardware issue because it's too late to send this card back. Well, they may not know that I've put a decent cooler on their card (the thing that came on it liked to put the heat directly back into my case running temperatures a good deal higher) if I put the original back, but, anyway, technically speaking it's too late. Besides, I really don't remember it doing anything of that nature since I first got it until much more recently (probably would be about the time I installed those betas.)
