Weird video problem

Don't both of those game run on the Source engine? If so this could be the problem however I have no idea about fixing or testing it.
 
vsync.. turn it on. your witnessing whats called tearing. it happens in cases when the vsync is off.
 
I just watched tthe video in the link and that has nothing to do with vsync being disabled/tearing.

To me that either looks like a driver problem or a problem with the video card, maybe damaged ram or gpu core.

But one thing I am sure about is that it is not tearing, although their is some tearing later near the end of the video, even that looks odd to me to be tearing, but I dont think that is what the person is on about, I think he is on about the lines and triangle shaped artifacts on the wall when their is no movement on screen of his character.

EDIT:

Upon watching the video again, I think its a hardware problem. If you overclock your video card, put it back to stock settings, also monitor the temp of the card when those artifacts appear, is the card overheating ???

I had something similar happen to a 6800ultra years ago, I couldnt take screenshots of the problem as the screenies looked normal, in the end it was found that the card was dieing and I had to get an rma from gainward, and the problem only showed in 1 game for me also, il2 pacific fighters, the rest of my games were perfect, but the water in il2 was all streaked with similar looking triangles that is on the wall in your video.

it only happens when playing those 2 games and its instant...soon as you leave the menu and the game loads that happens.. i dont believe temps they run max 38-42c on water cooling... i played black ops for hours and no lines and triangles like what you seen...portal2 has alot more artifacts then left 4 dead i will post a vid of that when i get home its almost unplayable...

only new hardware i have added was a asus 3d screen.. runningit at 120hz
 
this really sucks... if my 5970 is going bad theres nothign to replace it with, i dont think the 6990 is worth the price and pro... means i have to sit it out till the 7 series...
