Weird vertical green lines.

After playing BC2 for a little bit today my screen turned into solid vertical green lines. Sound was still coming out, but had to reboot. 6950 is flashed to unlock shaders and has 1.175v on the core. Temps are 44c under max extended load. Anyone have any ideas? GPUTool, Kombustor, etc -- all showed to be stable.
 
Flip the VGA bios switch to the left and boot up as just a 6950 and try playing again.

It sounds pretty clear but I want to double check, your 6950 is flashed with an unlock shader only bios right, not a 6970 bios. A 6970 bios is fine if it's stable like on my cards but not all cards can pull that off.

Shader bios only, correct. I flipped the switch and everything acted fine. I flipped it back and it has not done it again either. Did a few Unigine Heaven loops and some BC2 gaming and everything seems fine so far? Weird.

Cool, take it easy on the ram. In case you were overclocking it, I'd hold off. Ram is the most sensitive thing on videocards. Vertical lines bars and artifacts are usually a sign of failing video ram. By unlocking the shaders and matching the 6970 core clock your within 5% of the 6970 performance. Not worth killing the card's ram for that extra 5%. If anything slowly and carefully ramp your gpu core up little by little. That'll make up the 5% and then some.

There have also been reports of cards that unlock fine and then a week or so later can no longer handle the extra shaders being enabled. Be careful cause even a 6950 is fine to have. At least it's better than nothing ;)
 
Yah I had the ram at 1350 with no errors in Unigine or anything. No artifacts while gaming and it just green screened. Was weird. But DDR5 is different from DDR3 in that respect. I dropped it back down to 1250. Core is sitting happily at 950.
