Weird TV card problem

I work in a computerstore where a customer brought his PC back with the complaint that the 9800SE AIW cards made a clicking sound when using the TV tuner. I hooked up the system to the cable and discovered that he was right. First I swapped the AIW card with another one. And then another and another. They all made the clicking sound. Then I decided that the onboard sound must be defective. So I popped in a SB Live and still had the same problem. I also swapped the Gigabyte GA-7N400 board with an Abit NF7 board. That didnt work.

So I decided that it must be a combination of incompatible hardware. Then I used it with an Asus A7V8X-X board which has a KT400 chipset and a intel 865 based board. Still clicking.

At this point I decided to replace the AIW card by a 9700Pro and a Miro PCTV card. This seemed to be working. Then I replaced the PCTV card by a conceptronic TV card and again the clicking sounds appeared.

I am really at a loss here. I don't have a clue what is going on but my customer wants his PC back. I couldnt find anything on the net about this problem so you guys are my last hope..... :(
 
Might be bad shielding on the tuner, the RF could be sending a click noise through the system speaker.
 
The clicking comes through the speakers. When I mute the line-in in the mixer it stops.

It may be bad shielding but if it is then almost all the cards I tried have to suffer from it. I can imagine a certain batch from one manufacturer having this problem but not all the cards from every manufacturer. I am thinking, maybe it is the PSU that is emitting some noise.

It is strange that the clicking occurs with a fixed interval of a little over once/second.

Power supply!
I had that same issue before where I would here clicking of the proccesser. :)

Okay it's interferance with Line-In! Go ahead and mute it and you should be fine then.
 
I had the same problem with my ati tv wonder ve. I bought the leadtek winfast tv tuner and it went away. It is a softwre problem and not hardware problem. I noticed that if I changed channels in MMC, it would make the clicking noise but in the leadtek it would mute the line-in once u changed channels so u never hear the clicking noise.

Yes but the problem is that the TV card is connected to the line in. If I connect it to the AUX input then the clicking moves along with it.
 
Get a really TV tuner then, real ones don't have to be plugged into the Line-In since they pass the audio over the PCI bus. If it's a matter of money then tell him to get a better vid card and to get this.
