Weird Temp Readings

So I just installed my Corsair H60 water cooling unit and I'm getting some crazy temperatures. After a half hour playing Starcraft II Speedfan tells me that my CPU is at 68C. Coretemp won't give me a temp for my CPU.

Right now Speedfan tells me my CPU is idling at around 51C. That's several degrees higher than the stock HSF.

When I go into my BIOS and check on Hardware Health, it gives me 24C for my CPU temp. That's more like it, but now I don't know which is wrong and which is right because 24C is very low. Anyone know of another utility that gets accurate temps? The only other thing I can think of is that something is wrong with my H60. I can hear the pump running (I think), but I kind of screwed up the thermal paste I think. Could that be causing the supposedly super high temps?

And is it correct to have my fan blowing INTO the radiator? Sorry if this should go in Water Cooling forum but I think its a hardware monitoring issue
 
Don't use more than 1 monitor at the same time. The polling can interfere and give weird readings.Open hardware monitor is what I use. Pick one and stick to it. Though saying that, speenfan has always been inaccurate for me.

Blowing in/sucking out/either with the fan is fine. Do whats best for general airflow.

Yeah something is off cause 68 is WAY over the max rated for those 960's (62).

24 is about right for idle if your room is cool. The ambient temps in my room are 20-21 cause Im in a basement basically and keep it 68-70 degrees in here and I idle at 24-26. I hit 55-56C under Prime95.

I use CoreTemp as my temp monitor and it seems to be the most accurate. HWMonitor is also a very good one. Reboot, and fire up one of those and only one of those and see what it says.

Yeah, the room is always quite cool. I'll make sure I don't use more than one at a time. Coretemp gives me 0C every time I try, so I'll give Open Hardware Monitor a shot and see where it's at.
 
So the only thing that will give me a reading is AIDA 64 Extreme Edition-- and it's a demo. Does anyone have suggestions for another utility? I've read that the core temps won't read (those are always 0C in everything I try) after unlocking extra cores so I think I need to find the right utility.
 
Oh, I missed that unlocked bit. Yeah, nothing will read a Phenom once its unlocked cause unlocking it causes it to disable its temp sensor for some strange reason. You can use Core Temp and others like HWMonitor to read the CPU socket temp. This is usually 7-8C higher than the core temp of the CPU itself so you can use it as a rough guide. Thats what I did when I unlocked my X2 555 a while back. You could always just go back to a quad core and put a good sized overclock on it.
 
like macleod said, unlocking the processor disables the temp sensor. easiest way to figure out your temps is to remove the unlock. boot into windows and check your idle temp for the CPU and the CPU socket. do the same thing with it at full load. find out what the offset is between the CPU and CPU socket. speedfan and i believe open hardware monitor will allow you to manually change the temp offset for any sensor. so you can then change the CPU socket temp in the application to give you the correct CPU core temp. then unlock the processor again and you are good to go.

but like mac said the offset can be anywhere from 5-15C low or high of the actual core temp.
also the actual max temp for the 920 is 70C not 62C. either way neither temps trigger the thermal limit or cause it to shut down. you have to hit 80C before that happens. and yes i actually tried it and found that out.. :D
 
Thats funny, I installed an H-60 on my sons PC last night and had problems getting temp readings on that as well. Core Temp wouldn't work, either would HWMonitor. Neither program would give me a temp reading at all. Eventually I fired up the Asrock Overclocking Utility and thats the only program that would give me any temp reading at all. This was on a 1055T and Asrock 890FX board.
 
i went back to 4 cores and it looks like the "cpu" temp is a couple degrees higher than the cores. I think that'll do for just monitoring purposes, I won't be pushing the limits
