Cryostasis is by far one of the weirder games I've played. Clive Barker's undying is fun as well.

Yeah if you want Weird and Exotic, it's hard to even come close to The Void let alone do better.

Glad to see things like System Shock, Flashback, Another World, etc. being mentioned! Anything from Psygnosis before they were enveloped by Sony. Most of them had artwork by, and inspired by Roger Dean (Yes album cover guy) who makes some of the most beautiful alien landscapes in existence. Shadow of the Beast series especially. (these are on the Amiga of course)

More recently, Borderlands is pretty nice, and the Mass Effect games have some pretty cool worlds in them.

It wasn't a great game, but some of the locations in Unreal 2 were really nice.

Blade Kitten is a good one too. Agree with Giants: Citizen Kabuto. That has really lush worlds even now. Somehow they were just designed well enough (and differently enough) to still look good.

I love anything with an immersive and strange alien world.
