Weird SSD issue (Fixed), question

(FYI, I have a Crucial M4 and an MSI Z77A-GD65 mobo)

So last night I was doing some work and had to reboot after an update to Windows.
When I rebooted, I mysteriously got the dreaded "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device" message that is never good.
After checking the BIOS, for some reason my SSD had disappeared. I tried swapping cables, power cables, SATA slots, and almost everything under the sun. At this point I was thinking my SSD had died.
However after searching a little, the people at Crucial suggested letting your computer sit idle for 20 minutes (with the drive plugged in normally) followed by unplugging it and repeating this until the drive shows back up. This surprisingly worked and all of my data was absolutely fine!

Anyone else had this happen? Is this normal for SSD's or M4's? I'm just trying to pinpoint what happened.

How old is your M4? Over 6 months?

If you have firmware 0009 make sure you update it now.

(0009 has a firmware bug where the drive stops responding after ~5000 power on hours)

Speak of the devil! It looks like there's a new firmware posted today that wasn't even there yesterday.

be careful w/ the 010G update ...crucial (IMHO) should have waited or at least made the UEFI warning BIGGER...but regardless it says the new 010G update is NOT for systems with UEFI bios...

I applied it and it seems fine ..but my gigabyte Z68X-UD3-B3 mb has Award bios rather than UEFI..

I'm not sure about macs, but I don't think it matters if your motherboard supports UEFI or not. I would think that if your drive is MBR partitioned you can flash the firmware, whereas if it's GPT partitioned you can't.

Edit: Confirmed via OCN, the UEFI thing only applies to those who've installed Windows in UEFI mode (GPT) instead of BIOS (MBR). People over there have updated with boards that support UEFI.

over on crucial's forums some people that didn't heed the UEFI warning say their drives are not being detected after applying the 010G firmware..

as I said... (not sure in retrospect if i shouldn't have waited awhile before trying the update..but no guts no glory ) in my case no problems but thanx to gigabyte's sticking w/
award bios for a long time after UEFI started showing up (they do have a UEFI update for my mb now..but it sucks...and I rolled back) i have award bios.

Hmmmm. Looks like My MSI uses a UEFI BIOS. I'm guessing I should avoid this one and wait for another revision.

Do you have 0009 at the moment? If so, you really should upgrade immediately..
