I just recently started to hear some strange sounds coming from my computer (possibly the CPU or Mobo Fan(s)). It's hard to describe the sounds, but it's isnt a buzzing or high pitched noise. I guess I could describe it as a low level "quacking" It happens randomly and then goes away.

I thought it might be something in the case that might've losened up, but I totally dismantled my PC and cleaned it since I had it all un-done, but still the strange noise is still there. PC specs are noted below.

There is also a post code 2.0. I looked in the manual for that post code but I didnt find anything. I've never noticed this post code either, it's usually 9.9 (I think).

Any ideas what it might be?

ABIT KV8 Non-Deluxe
768mb PC2100 Ram
Sapphire ATi 9800 Pro
 
I'll bet you have a fan going out, somewhere. Open up the case and when it starts, try to find the offending air motion device.

Not much else in there to make noise, I believe.......

Well there's always the assorted drives, but I've never had a cd-rom go quack and the one time my HDD made a non-standard noise it was more like the TING! of metal briefly contacting with metal and vibrating. Of course the HDD soon failed after that ;) 5GB of mp3s go poof, glad I had them backed up to CD :D
 
I've heard that before, it kinda sounds like rumble strips (the higher pitched ones) for like a second or two... it is usually a fan's bearings going bye bye, don't know how long it could last, as I replace fans if they do this right away, so I would do the open the case and wait for it to happen trick to find out which one it is, last thing you need is your CPU fan to stop overnight
 
Just figured out what was making the sound. My CDRW died and was trying to spin a CD and the motor just couldnt handle it anymore.

So now I am in the market for another CDRW Drive. I'm looking at getting a LG/Sony/PIONEER in a Beige/Silver color. Any 8x/16x DVD +/- RW dual layer/format drives you would recommend? And what media?

I know 16x media isnt out yet, but it might be nice to have one it does.

I was probably going to buy it off newegg
 
Looks like I guessed wrong, it's my northbridge fan... This mobo is about 2 months old :eek:
