Hello everyone.....I've come here in search for a solution to a problem that would have me ripping my hair out if I wasn't bald already.

This has only been happening the past week or 2 and I have never had this problem in the past 5 to 7 years that I have been using FL (fruity loops 5 producer edition). Basically, all sound randomly stops working, except in FL. All other sounds from any other program will not work, including Windows system sounds, and the only way to bring things back to normal is to restart the computer. Of course, this only happens when I have FL open.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled FL. I've made sure my sound drivers are up to date. There are never any errors in device manager. I'm just totally clueless. If someone can help me out, I will be extremely grateful.

My soundcard is an Audigy 2 ZS platinum and the driver that I use in FL is SB Audigy ZS ASIO 24/96 [DE00].

My only hypothesis is that FL is somehow randomly not allowing any other application to access the sound card.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

I assume your using the ASIO drivers.. have you played with the latency settings?

Hey there Magnetik, thanks for answering.

I have tweaked the latency settings, trying different amounts of milliseconds and whatnot, also have tried adjusting the sample rate. All the settings act pretty much just how you would expect them to within FL but nothing as of yet is making audio work in any other program. Like I said, audio in FL works but nothing else (when this problem randomly happens, which is anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours after opening FL).

Obviously FL is hanging on to the ASIO and not letting anything else access the sound card, even after I close FL, and I've also checked the task manager / process viewer.....there was no instances of FL still running like I expected there to be. I've also tried checking the box in FL that says "auto close device." Still, nothing.

I'm thinking about trying to use some other generic ASIO driver, like ASIO4all. Anyway, thanks again.

Someone else might need to test this, but I don't believe running an ASIO application locks audio output to ASIO-only on the Audigy 2. I seem to recall DS/wavOut still functioning just fine when I used WaveLab via ASIO on my Audigy 2 ZS (eons ago).

There's likely just some sort of glitchy way FL likes to manage devices and there probably isn't much that can be done about it. I'd suspect that other ASIO-driven apps wouldn't cause a problem here. Try this app and see if the same issue occurs with it.

That's a great tool, thanks for the link. Just like you said, no problems with that application. So, FL is in fact disabling direct sound only. Once this occurrence happens, I can't even use a direct sound driver in FL.

I just don't get it because I have never had this problem before, like I said, only within the last week or two and I've been using these same configurations for a long time.

I don't know much about ASIO, other than it functions a lot better than a default direct sound driver. I'm wondering if there is any way to make Windows use ASIO when playing any audio, so that I will not have this problem anymore, is this possible?

Thanks guys

I know it's a shot in the dark but do you have your onboard sound enabled? did anything get installed since you said it just started happening? Drivers etc?

Nope, on-board sound has been uninstalled since I purchased the system. I double checked just to make sure.

The only thing that I can think of that has been installed is updated video drivers (Catalyst Control Center for on-board ATI Radeon Express 200 graphics).

Anyway, the problem is still happening and it's driving me crazy! lol
