Every morning I wake up and turn on my computer and I get this loud grinding noise from my seagate hard drive and It just started doing this. Then it stops when loading Windows it stops making this noise. (tomorrow i'll get a sound clip of the noise..)

Is this mean its gonna die soon?

EDIT: It still works and all and only does it in startup...

Is it properly screwed in and all?

Got backups? Now's the time, if you don't have them. There's always time for backups. Unless there's time to redo whatever you have on your computer...

yes its screwed in and I just made backups.

Should I plan to get a new drive soon?

yes, get a new drive asap.

When a drive starts making bad noises, it's time to replace it.

alrighty thanks

Now I beg my mom to let me buy stuff off of newegg.

one more question if it fails will it take out any other components in my computer? Like Cd drives or other stuff?

um it shouldn't... but i guess it could in some crazy Kafkaesque sort of way

If you mother won't let you get parts from Newegg, how about Staples? You can get the Diamondmax 10 300gb Ultra16 drive for $279, pricematch it to Outpost.com for $199, then add in a $15 or $20 coupon to drop the price down further. Then just tell them you want to pick it up locally, so you can pay in cash and not have to use your mom's credit card. I just got mine for $170 + $25 in a future gift certificate from staples, should be delivered tomorrow. I'm pairing it with a 200GB 7200.7

It's not that it's because it's right after christmas.. I could of just asked one for christmas.
