weird refresh rate problem with x800xl

I built my new system with my x800xl and now have a refresh rate problem. I used to be able to set 800x600 to 144hz (on my old gf3ti200) My monitor DOES support it and it DID work. However, now I Cannot even select that as an option in display properties. 120hz is the highest I can get it to go. I have ati tool and ati tray tools and I cannot get it to go to 144. It is the strangest thing. Anyone know how to resolve this? 140 will show up but I dont even think that refrsh rate is supported. I just want to be able to run it at 144 like my old gf3. THanks.

ps I know 800x600 is a low resolution and blablah but that is what I use in CS so that's all im interested in. Thanks!
