Weird problems with WD drive

So I have a 500gb harddrive that started failing today, in checkdisk it says its got a bad MFT and aborts, however it shows it as 2 different partitions, both being ~488gb (its a 500gb drive)
Any reason why checkdisk would see it as two 500gb instead of one?

Also when this drive is plugged in, it wont let windows boot (Windows isnt on this harddrive)
It just throws a BSOD

I highly recommend you avoid chkdisk if you think you have a failing hard drive.

See what CrystalDiskInfo reports first.

Checkdisk doesnt even run, I cant run the drive as it wont boot into windows if its plugged in, is crystaldiskinfo bootable?

Unplug the sata cable from the drive. Boot into windows then plugin sata cable to the drive. Although it may be time to retire it.

Sata can hot-swap like that? Im retiring it,although this drives only a few years old, my OS drive has 60K hours on it.
If the MFT is corrupt would I even be able to get data off it?

Yes. I have hot swapped SATA drives like this for over a decade. SATA1 supported hot swap. Although it took windows a few years to support this I know Windows 7 and above (probably Visa as well) support that.

If your mobo supports it as well, you may have to enable it in the bios.
