Well I received this card as a gift a few days ago and I noticed something weird that happens from time to time. Whenever i just leave my computer for a few hours and come back sometimes my screen will look all distorted with little blocks of grey scattered about my desktop and such. But whenever i restart my graphics are fine and stay that way for a while longer until i leave again. It hasn't ever done this when i am sitting at my computer. I am using XP pro and just installed the new via drivers, and yes i have the newest catalyst and directx. Anyone ever heard of this or know if it could be an issue with my motherboard and this vid card? I have using an ASUS A7V333. Thanks

Did you have a previous video card install?
Did you do the video card drivers after the mobo and chipset drivers were installed?
Is the card getting adequate airflow?
What brand of 9800pro?
Was the card used or new?
What is your power supplys wattage?

1. Yes i had the radeon 8500LE installed and no i put this card on before i updated my via drivers.
2. Im sure its getting good airflow because my cpu is at 39C and mobo is at 20C.
3. It is a standard built by ATI card purchased from compusa
4. Therefore it is new
5. I have an Antec Truepower 430watt

*EDIT*: I also noticed that in device manager under display adapters there are TWO radeon 9800's listed. One of them says Radeon 9800 PRO and the other says Radeon 9800 PRO - Secondary (which says its in a pci slot...wtf??)

Running Windows 2000?

There is a workaround for multimonitor from a single card in Windows 2000. That would explain the second card in the device manager.

As for the problems... I dunno. Sounds to me like you may have gotten a dud.

edit: reread, saw you were running XP... ok, next person educate me...

Make sure the card is firmly seated in agp slot and monitor cable is screwed in vga port of radeon, dont forget to check the extra power connector (from psu to videocard).

Good Luck
