Hi! I'm encountering a very weird problem with an old computer. It used to boot ok but now it doesn't do anything. No beeping sounds to indicate the possible problem, I don't hear the beep before posting, the screen is blank and the power led is the only led that's on. Here's the spec:

Intel Pentium !!! 1.0Ghz
ASUS P3V4X
1x512MB
SoundBlaster 5.1 Live Value
D-Link 530TX 10/100mbps
GeForce4 Ti 4200 128MB
Seagate Barracuda 40GB 7200RPM
Ricoh CD Rewriter
Creative DVD 6x Drive

After some thinkering, I eventually detached the cables connected to the CD/DVD/HD/FDD and I was able to post just fine. Now thinking that the harddrive might be dead, I took out a harddrive from a computer that I know is working but the old problem is back. Has anyone encountered something like this?
 
It's a bad something. Instead of detaching them all at once, detach one at a time, and try to boot after taking off each one. If it still doesn't boot, reconnect that one and go on to the next one. Once you find the bad component, it's up to you what to do (warranty, buy a new one, etc).
 
hehehe. I would love to do that. But I think it's pretty useless if the harddisk is the only storage device connected to the computer and it won't boot :D

I failed to mention that I already tried switching between primary/secondary IDE with the result being the same.
 
Thats bizarre i have the exact same setup for a small office file server at home and the nothing worked on the primary ide. Problem came out of nowhere! Switched to secondary and no probs. I dunno if this will work but maybe find a cheapo ata controller and plug it into a pci slot and plug your hdd into it. I've never used controller cards before so im not sure if you need a hard drive attached to the motherboards controller or not. gl
 
I might be having the same problem as yours, ronenvelarde. I know the p3v4x has some problems (which unfortunately I found out the hard way) just didn't think it would have this kind of problem :D
