I have a Core i7 4770 on a Gibabyte GA-B85M-DS3H. For about a month now, every time I turn it off, or loose power, it won't POST. Sometimes it won't come back from sleep either.

    Fix is random.
    Unplugging the PSU sometimes work
Removing one of the ram stick (It has 2 8gb modules). I can put back the 2nd module afterwards.
Moving the ram to different slots.
    Reseating the videocard.
    Removing the CMOS battery.
    Reinstalling the CPU
    All of the above...

I've tested everything but the mobo/cpu on a different PC and it all works. Also tried different ram modules.
It all points to the MB IMO but I'd want to rule out the CPU.

The system is completely stable other than the power up issue.

    Any suggestions?

I'll have access to an exact same system by the end of the week. Hopefully I can finally check if its the mobo or the CPU.

Already tried different PSU. It was running on a 500w and now on a 600w Antec.

I'll check when I get home, but at first sight I didn't find damaged capacitors.

When it won't POST, what does it do? Fans run and it just sits there w/no video?

Everything is powered up, fans run, no video, no beeping.
It only beeps if the ram slots are empty.

Hmmmm... haven't tried disabling onboard video... I won't use it anyway. I'll give it a try later.

^ that's a good idea too. am I understanding correctly that you tested the gpu in another system but not a new gpu in the problem one?

Like pendragon1 above, I was going to ask if it beeped with no video card installed.
Seems like a timing issue more than anything since randomly swapping stuff doesn't really fix it and it doesn't seem to be a power problem. Since it's stable once running, it's like there is a PCIe initialization problem of some kind during POST.
Is there a newer BIOS for the video card? What video card is it?

Boot up on first try after disabling the integrated video. Haven't added the 2nd ram stick nor HDDs yet. I'll do some more testing before that.
