Weird power-fan-hd problem

Ok, heres how I had it setup.

3 sunon 80mm case fans. 1 160gig sata maxtor dimond max 9 hd. 1 fan controller controlling two fans.

I decided I had to many cables showing so I wanted to hide some in the back of the mobo (other side of the case). I got everything situated, the hd was on its own 12v power chain and the fans were on another. When I booted I had a data read error. So I rebooted, windows came up but extreamly slow. I ran HDTach and I was getting like a max read of 1mb/s yes 1. I rebooted and took the fans off. It was back to normal. I rebooted again with 1 fan hooked up, same problem again...slow as a snail. I had 4 fans hooked up before. I have only 3 now. I have since removed the fan controller and still have the same probs. It works fine and dandy if I unplug all the fans. Thanks in advance.

btw I have a antec smartpower 400watt. Model sl400.
