Just got finished with the week long tiring journey of overclocking my system. Specs are:
Phenom 9950 stock @ 2.6Ghz w/ 2.0Ghz HT and 200FSB
Foxconn Destroyer 780a mainboard
4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR800
Overclocked specs are:
Core speed = 3.217Ghz
FSB = 268
NB speed = 2.680Ghz (Stock is 2.0)
HT Speed = 2.680Ghz
Vcore = 1.425 (Stock 1.250)
HT Voltage = 1.20 (Stock)
I verified these settings as stable by running OCCT for 9 hours straight with no errors.
Now, this whole entire time I was tinkering with these aspects of the system I had the RAM underclocked to 667 speeds so I could be absolutely sure if the system crashed it wasn't a possibility. However, this is now the only divisor ratio I can keep the system stable at.
After finding the maximum possible values for my CPU, I attempted to return the RAM to the 1066 setting which I verified it was stable at. With the proper divisor selected it will get me a speed of DDR1072, which should be stable at 2.2v with 5-5-5-15 timings. However, if I try to select this divisor, the system fails to POST and goes into "Overclock Recovery Mode". The next divisor down which will get me DDR892 allows the system to POST, but it is too unstable to be able to even log onto windows. It is so unstable it will lock up in the BIOS screen. DDR667 speeds the system is stable but obviously this is not an acceptable setting.
I verified with CPU-Z that changing the divisor ratio ONLY affects the RAM. The NB, HT and FSB remain unchanged, so what gives?
