Weird OC

When I was running my old memory (Corsair DDR400), I was able to OC to 12x234=2808mhz with 100% stability. I bought new memory (DDR500) and now it won't OC as far. This memory will run at 10x270 all day long but when I try to get the CPU speed back up to around 2800mhz using 255x11, it now crashes.

Any ideas?

Thanks is advance.

Tweaked the timings at all?

I adjusted the timings enough, so far, that it allows the mem to run at 270mhz but the problem is that it runs at 10x270 all day long and Prime95 stable but doesn't seem to want to run at 11x255 which equals about the same CPU speed.

btw...it will also run Prime95 stable at 10.5x267 but using a .5 multiplier doesn't allow the HTT and mem to run in a 1:1 ratio. I heard that this hinders performance? True?

it's no bit deal, really.

seriously though, have you taken the time to mess around adjusting voltages of CPU mem and whatever else independantly?

i always start stock and work my way up a little bit at a time.

So it'll run at 270 w/the same timings and all but it won't run at 255 w/the proc clocked slightly higher? Either there's some freakish conflict with the memory and the memory controller at higher frequencies or you're missing something imo.

Maybe youre BIOS is mis-interpreting one of the settings and clocking something differently behind your back? Have you verified 'em with CPU-Z/Speedfan or w/e? It's not uncommon...

You shouldn't really have any issues running the memory in sync or not, that was more of a concern back in the day with the old Athlons... On A64's the memory's always running on a multiplier regardless, so even 1:1 isn't really trully sync... Though A64s have never liked half-multipliers afaik, there used to be issues with them working correctly.

Yeah, I've tweaked the bios thoroughly. Voltages, ect...

I'll check that out....thanks.
