Weird multiplier bug on i7 920

21x multiplier stayed just fine up til 4.3GHZ now that im going for higher, when i run prime95 it almost instantly drops down to 20x and lowers my clock. when i stop prime95 it resumes to 21x.

Update: Tried all the speedstep stuff, and tried upgrading the bios. still does it.

Seems to only happen when i go above 1.35 volts and above 4.3GHZ so ill just stay where im at. its good enough.
 
What are your temps? Could be that the chip is trying to protect itself with thermal management, but from what I understand the core temps have to be pretty damn high for that to start happening (90+?)
 
Is C1E disabled? What kind of VDroop are you experiencing? What are your voltages at?

It shows a much more accurate reading for what the current and low figures are for the multiplier under load.

When using the 21x CPU multi, certain temperatures and power draws (or both) will enable the throttling. You can up the BCLK and use the 20x CPU multi instead, or try the beta BIOS which has a fix.
 
As far as i can tell there is no VTT in the P6T Deluxe bios. When i set the multiplier to 20x and overclock above 4.2GHZ the multiplier still drops to 19, even 18 sometimes.
 
Wow, I was totally expecting to see someone else clueless about powersaving. I have not seen that issue myself. But I don't spend much time on my friends p6t.

Asus labels it as QPI Voltage, sorry. You've got some nasty stress on the IMC with 12gb RAM. You can up the QPI Voltage, you can also pop out 3 sticks of ram and see if it does the trick.
Is there an 8 pin CPU plug on that board?
 
yes its an 8 pin. i have that voltage at 1.3v but i should go higher?

update: upped the QPI voltage to 1.4 which is borderline, didnt fix the problem, going to try the memory.

Raise it some more. For reference: My 4.0/4.2 ghz daily, I run at 1.3V(LLC Enabled), but that is with only 6GB of RAM. When I Bench, that voltage increases up over 1.575V (4.8-4.9 ghz)
Give 1.35V to 1.4V a try. Just to see if it has any effect on your problem.

You're sure all power saving features are disabled? C1E, EIST, C-STATE, TM...

this happen to me to when i were using ASUS x58 board, now i have switched to EVGA and i ran 4.4 @ 1.31v HT ON prime stable no problem

doesnt matter anyway cant get it to work, i have a p5tD Deluxe, and my computer throws a hissy fit whenever i try to flash the bios since its for a p5t deluxe
