Hi guys,

So a while back, my cat chewed through my Dell Inspiron 1501 adapter cable. I also needed a new battery. So I finally bought an after market battery and adapter to replace them, and something odd now. When I plug the adapter into the laptop, it causes the mouse to go all wonky with choppy movement and random clicks. If I unplug the adapter, everything is fine again.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Is the power adapter aftermarket? If it is, I would get a genuine dell adapter. You can find them on ebay pretty cheap. Also be sure to get the 90 watt adapter if that is what originally came with your laptop, otherwise the 65 watt will probably be ok.

So something else strange happened between last night and today. As i was testing out the mouse thing unplugging and plugging in the AC adapter, one time as I unplugged it, the laptop just shut down. The battery still shows a full charge when I press the button on it, but the laptop won't power without the adapter, and will shut off as soon as I unplug it. The touchpad works fine now for long periods with the adapter plugged in.

Maybe I got a lemon battery? Maybe there's an electrical problem? I'm at ends :/
