So basically I convinced my dad that I want to build a new system instead of getting another Dell. 3 weeks ago, all my parts had arrived. For the past week I had been contemplating whether or not to overclock and after reading up on the subject I decided why not. My goal was to get my E6600 to 3.2ghz which seems reasonable enough.
Specs:
Windows XP SP2
GA-P35-DQ6
E6600
G.Skill 2x1gb PC2-6400 4-4-4-12
EVGA 8800GTS 640MB
Corsair 620w
This is the guide I followed: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1169366
Everything was going well (I had all the utilities required, updated my BIOS from F3 to F4, modified my BIOS settings accordingly) and managed to OC my processor to 3.2ghz (8x400 1:1 ratio). My voltages match those of the aformentioned guide's author.
I checked my temps with CoreTemp and SpeedFan and my speeds with CPU-Z and everything looked to be fine. I ran Orthos small FFTs for a little over an hour without encountering any errors. My Super PI times dramatically improved as did my overall gaming performance.
Now on to the problem...
Whenever I try to run Orthos blend/large FFTs or memtest86+, my PC locks up within 20 seconds forcing me to reboot. This leads me to believe the problem lies within the memory.
After a couple hours of trial and error and almost 100 reboots, I feel as though I've tried everything. I've tried different combinations of MultixFSB (8x400, 9x350, 9x333) and voltages (+0.1/+0.2/+0.3/+0.4 to vDIMM, +0.05/+0.1/+0.2 to PCI-E, FSB, MCH and 1.35v-1.45v vCore) and all I was able to do was prolong the time before these tests froze on me. Fiddling around with options in the BIOS proved futile. When I go back to stock settings everything is back to normal.
What should I do? I'm open to any suggestions at this point.
