Recently, my mom signed up for dsl to save a few bucks off cable, but it's too slow so we're
switching back to cable. The only problem is the network here isn't working anymore. I've
narrowed it down a little bit though. This is the setup btw: cable modem > router >powerline
> switch > mac + xbox. When I connect the cable modem directly to the powerline and then
to my laptop or even just directly to my laptop it works fine, so the powerline isn't the issue.
If I try to plug my powerline into my mac, however, it doesn't work at all, it says "self
assigned ip". If I add the router between the modem and powerline to go cable modem >
router > powerline > any device, nothing works either. I can see the network being
broadcasted by the router, but it's local only when I connect to it.
I have no idea why the mac can't connect when it's basically directly to the modem and why the router isn't routing any internet at all. I've already tried resetting and restarting all the devices on the network so that's not it either. Maybe the router's broke? I dunno.... Any help is really appreciated, thanks!
