ok when i heard a weird whining noise coming from my case fan i restarted my computer. And now i cant see my 3rd drive in windows anymore. It detects it fine at the bios screen, but when i boot into windows i cant see the drive there anymore. What is going on. This has happened before and when i restart my comp agian it fixes it but this time i still dont see it.
 
ok i just noticed that when i went to my device mangement, my secondary ide channel was set to pio mode, and when i set it back to dma mode, i can see my drive again. what is going on?
 
windows will automatically drop an ide channel down to pio mode if it's getting excessive errors. You might want to back up and run diagnostics on all your drives.
