I really hope someone can help me, this is a problem I have been having for months now and it is just so annoying I can't stand it anymore. I think the problem is my video card. Anyways, here are my specs

Athlon 3200
1 GB Dual Channeled 400 (512x2)
MSI K8N Neo 2 Plat
BFG 6800 GT (This is actually reburbished, sent in last one for broken fan)

Now.. I can't remember exactly when this happened, I dont remember off hand if it happened with my previous 6800 gt or just the new one. Anyways, what happens is when I'm playing games, and only when I'm playing game, I will get moments where everything will lock up for a solid three seconds, sometimes a couple more. Then everything will pick right back up where it left off after that. This is very random when it happens, sometimes playing for three minutes, other times not for a half an hour. And the frequency is very random.

I've all but ruled out heat, everything shows up as cool, and I have taken the side of my computer off and put a house fan right next to it keeping it quite cool. I also don't think it would freeze a few minutes after play if it was heat anyways. Also, I have just installed the newest NVidia drivers and this made the problem unbearable. Now it happens almost non stop when playing games. So this really leads me to believe it is my video card, although I have never heard of a card doing this.

Has anyone else ever had this happen? Or have any idea what might be the cause? Any help would be great, I posted this a month ago but not one person ever had a clue, so hopefully this time someone a bit more knowledgable sees this.


Edit : It is also worth noting that I did a full system restart about a month back, and I never had it connected to the internet, just had basic drivers. No chance for virsus/spyware anything of that sort since no online connection, and with just one game installed I had this problem. Also all of my drivers today are up to date.
 
I seem to be having the EXACT same problem. My system specs are as follows:

Athlon 64 3400+
2 GB RAM
DFI LanParty nF3 250GB
BFG 6800 GT OC
Seagate 200 GB SATA
Plextor 12x DVD SATA

The freezing only occurs in games, is very random and nothing seems to be overheating. I've made sure that only necessary XP services are running (via Blackviper.com) and it still happens. I recently upgraded my motherboard drivers via DFI's site, however, I'm still running the nVidia drivers from November 9th (what's posted on their site).

Anyone else encountering this or could possibly shed some light on it? I figure I may have to contact BFG and RMA my card...

Same problem here. It's really odd, and annoying. It usually only happens once or twice in a gaming session. Then performance is back to fantastic. It happens in XP, and a fresh install of XP-64 on the same hardware.

My system:

FX-53
eVGA 6800GT
K8N Neo2 Plat
1 GB Ballistix PC3200 at 2-2-2-10
 
I went ahead and e-mail BFG last night and asked if this is a problem that can be related to the video card. I'll give them a call Monday too and let you guys know what happens.
 
Also to the guy using NVidia's official November drivers, don't change those to the new ones they posted on their web site. Most likely since you have the same problem as you, you will have the same problem I did when I updated.That is the problem multiplied by so much no game is playable, now the problem occurs about every 10 seconds solid, not as far a part as before, not even close. I had to go back to the older drivers and everything is fine now.
 
i got the MSI k8n Nforce4 Platinum sli and a BFG 6800gt PCI-e
and i cant get games to work, it keeps locking up in everything related 2 video.
 
Just a follow up to people having the same problem as me. It turns out, for me anyways, the problem is the PSU. I can't figure out why, it is rated as a 450 but for whatever reason it isn't producing enough juice and that three second stall seems to be from that. I unhooked my fans for a few hours (used house fan to cool it in meantime) and I never had the problem again for the few hours of game playing. So might be something to look into if you're having this problem.

just curious, what brand and model psu you have?

i had the same problem with freezing/reboots and artifacts with my old vantec 520a psu. you guys should definately check your psu's not overclocking anything. funny enough the vantec was not running warm at all it was cool air coming out of the exhaust compared to my pcp&c 510sli which is quite warm but rock stable with the voltages on the rails compared to my vantec although it was still in compliance with spec but below 3.3, 12, and 5.

i have none of these issues anymore and i can overclock without any problems unlike before using my vantec 520a.

at first i htought it was my ati 9800pro rma'd it still no help. got a 6800gt and still the same problems. i went thru a lot of headaches until i noticed it was my psu. check up on the psu forum it should help out greatly it did for me. i would never had known pcp&c existed if not for that forum.
 
I have an aspire 500, I have to be honest, I, like I think many, really overlooked my powersupply. It came with my case, and the reviews on newegg.com were all very good for the PSU, but from searching around here for the last thirty minutes or so I see my PSU is really awful. Pretty upset with that though.. The case was a lot of money if I remember right.
 
I have a Blue Storm AX500-A PSU (500w), I thought it would be enough to handle my system (specs in second post). I'm doubting that the PSU is my problem... I guess I'll have to contact BFG.

Just thought I'd mention, for anyone else this might help, that I fixed my problem. AGP fastwrites were enabled in my BIOS. Changed that setting and I'm good to go, even with the latest drivers, BETA ones to boot. :)
