Weird DVI cable issue

I bought ATI 5870 and did complete install yesterday whilst I had the computer connected my hdtv via DVI-HDMI cable and everything is working fine.

Connecting regular DVI cable to my monitor even when the monitor is powered off causes the screen go blank on the second display connected via DVI-HDMI and fan on the graphics card to go nuts, the OS behind is unaffected though, it seems that there is a grounding issue with ATI card, I tried it with 9800GX2 and it worked fine. Also the behavior is the same when I connect the monitor and then power up the computer.

I even tried 3 different DVI cables and they made no difference, I'll admit I am stumped here and now I actually need some help solving this, how do I ground a graphics card :D

Graphics card in question is XFX branded.
