I have a computer that has 1 hard drive and 1 cd-rom that boots perfectly.
I just bought two brand new Maxtor hard drives over black Friday. When I connect one of them up with just the power connector the power supply unit seems to short out causing my system to not be able to turn on. So I thought it might be the drive and tried the other new hard drive I bought, but it still would short out.
I then took out the power adapter cord that is being used by the hard drive that was in there (the original one that worked fine) to see if it was just a bad cord, and the new hard drive still seems to short out.
I switched both new hard drives to see if it was the drive but had no luck. I never seen something like this happen before. Has anyone run into this type of situation where connecting a new hard drive to a power cord shorts out the psu, is so how did you fix it?
Here are some specs of the old box:
Antec Case
PSU Antec 400W
Motherboard: IWill KK266
AMD 1GHz
512MB Ram
