Hi guys,
I'm not really a "newbie" to this forum.... but leaved for a while, and now I had to register myself again.
Let's go right to the point.
I recently changed case, switching form a Chieftec big-tower case w/ 320W PS to a smaller, midi-tower case w/ 400W PS, aluminium made.
The cooling solution changed also: I switched from water-cooling, back to raw-air cooling
... due to space limitations.
Right now, everything is runnning fine, EXCEPT for any 3D application (such as games...) I try to run.
Infact, after a variable amount of time (randomly ranging from 2, up to 30+ minutes...) any game suddenly quits back to windows w/o reporting ANY error.
Even games such as Sim City 4 (which is not actually a "3D-intensive" application) suddenly quit back to windows after a variable amount of time...
I tried to change CPU, with two different "flavours", w/o effect.
I changed PS, with one less powerful (380W) but made with better components (I suppose and hope...), only to find out that every game, now, quits after a bigger amount of time... but still quits!...
I thought about several possible reasons:
- temperature: the case is smaller and worse ventilated than the previous one and the vid card and/or CPU reaches too high temps, but if so, why games quit after a "random" amount of time?
- electric: the M/B discharges somewhere/somehow, but why not everytime?
Before I rip-open the whole PC looking for a better answer, does anybody out there had the same symptoms and, possibly, solved 'em?
Here is the current config:
Asus A7N8X Deluxe (latest BIOS/Revision)
AMD Barton XP 3200+ (tried 3000+ and 2200+)
1024Mb DDR400 (512 x2, no-brand), single channel
Sapphire R9700 Pro 128Mb
Quantum Atlas 10kIII, 36Gb 10k RPM U-SCSI 160 + Adaptec 19160 U-SCSI 160
2x Maxtor D.MaxPlus S-ATA 160Gb in RAID 1
Thanks a lot
