Weird heat issues

It had been a stable 2400+ XP-M running at 11x200, prime 95 and other tests checked out. Everything had been running fine. Around the time I was having driver issues with Farcry, the computer became gradually less and less stable. It would shut down in the middle of playing games or movies after awhile (temp management?). Thought it was a virus or the driver issues, but it wasn't just continually BSODing and restarting like before. It would completely shut down and shut down again before loading windows, but wait 15 minutes and it would boot up ok. So I reformatted and downclocked it to 1.6 Ghz (12x133), and it runs more stable. What is my CPU's problem? The cooler is big enough (zalman 7000a), and it must be making contact or otherwise it would be completely screwed, right? It was working just fine before, I dunno how to go through the steps here (1st build), and I really want to OC it back to 11x200 like b4. HELP!

You need to make some temp measurements using some appropriate software, maybe from the motherboard.
Do various tests and get back to us.

It would seem my temp measurement on my motherboard is inaccurate...It would go up to 50-60 C and then shut down, but on restart I checked the temp in the BIOS and it was 85-95 C!! something weird about that...doesn't feel 85-95 C hot but then im only touching the cooler

I know the indicator that showed 50-60 C never went over 65 or it would've sounded a temp alarm which Ive never heard so...I dunno

Oh and idle temps were about 38-40.

Are you using aftermarket thermal goop? I have the exact same ship you do and can run 2.3+ 100% stable all day during hardcore gaming sessions. I use a TT extreme volcano 12 with some arctic silver ceramique. Stuff works great as long as you follow the online guide and do exactly as they say. I love the fan controller for it, turn it all the way down when im jus chillin on the net and its silent. Turn it during gaming and it really pushes air man!

nah just the grease that came with my Zalman, and it worked great for about 6 months...Im fairly sure its the voltage because the vcore is at 1.6 it works fine but at 1.75 it shuts down even after a few minutes of being idle...any thoughts?

id say reapply the thermal compound and try again..... my chip in sig required a lot of VC to get it stable.
