Weird AMD HDMI Sound Issue..

OK, so I switched over to an AMD 6950. Very happy so far, but my sound issues remain when I try to pass audio through my AV receiver. But at least I have been able to troubleshoot the exact issue down the problem to this:

1. Plug in monitor 1 into DVI 1 (native).
2. Turn on computer.
3. One screen, no sound. Good, OK.
4. Plug in AV receiver for sound: HDMI-out from GPU to HDMI-in on receiver (native, using regular HDMI cable).
5. Sound works. Good!
6. Connect monitor 2, plug into HDMI-out on receiver (using DVI to HDMI adapter).
7. 2nd screen powers on, sound is disabled. ****!
8. Pull out monitor 2 connected receiver.
9. Still no sound!
10. Turn receiver off/on.
11. Sound returns!

Why must my sound be disabled? Maybe it's something wrong with the adapter? The DVI->HDMI adapter is a female DVI-I Dual Link, whereas the DVI out from my apple display cable is only DVI-D Single Link...shouldn't make a difference having more pins on the adapter..right? It's not certified or anything..got it on eBay. Other than that I don't see any relevant settings on me receiver. HDMI passthrough doesn't help.
I was having similar issues with my previous NVIDIA card and my onboard Intel HDMI Graphics HDMI out sound also..

Any help or insight would be great!
