Weird 6800 PCI-E question

I currently am running a 6800GT PCI-E (XFX) and am loving it (for my 2405 it runs everything smoothly at 1920x1200) Dell is doing their big coupons in the morning on 8400s and I was thinking of picking one up with a 6800GTO? What exactly is a GTO? I havent seen one for sale anywhere except from Dell. Will this allow me to run SLI on my rig or do I really need 2 EXACT same cards? I am running an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe board. Sorry of this has been covered elsewhere but I couldnt find anything usefull about teh GTO part doing a search.

Is the 8400 a laptop?

The 6800GTO may be the 6800 Go chipset that was released for laptop use?
 
Nope they are their high end Dimension desktops. The card is 256MB DDR3 blah blah blah just cant find out what the "O" is for (unless it is a 6800GT"O"em
 
Yes the "O" in 6800GT(O) stands for OEM version. The same offer was available for my dad's XPS Gen. 4.
 
The 6800 GTO is not exactly a 6800 GT.

The GTO has only 12 pipes not 16 pipes and the memory is only clocked to 900Mhz not 1,000Mhz.
 
Well I just ordered 2 of teh 8400s with these cards in them and will try to SLI them and bench them against my 6800GT and see how it goes. If not then I guess I will dump them here or on Ebay as they arent needed for teh machines they are coming out of.

The GTOs are famous for having issues running in SLI. I'd be careful- and as already mentioned, they are substantially different from the GT, or the NU. 12x5 makes it more like a stock 6800, except for the higher speed GDDR3.
