Weird 2005FPW issue

I just received my 2005FPW today, its a May 2005 A02. I don't have any dead or stuck pixel, or even any backlight issues. However, when I set a blue desktop background only, I can see thin horizontal bars in the upper left corner of the screen scrolling upward. It is really hard to explain, its very faint, the bars are just a few shades lighter than the background color. I can only see it if I look right at it, and if the background is any other color than (dark) blue the movement stops. I only notice it when I am not doing anything on the desktop because it is the only thing moving. Very strange. Perhaps it will go away once its on for a while? Anyone have any similar issues or ideas as to what this could be?

edit: I can see it all the way down the left hand side of the monitor with grey as my desktop background.

Double check your video connection and also double check your computer ground. What you are describing sounds a whole lot like “AC” hum bars.

You could also try unplugging your speaker system or any other peripherals and see if that changes anything. Is there any chance your computer is connected in any way to TV cable? Cable is a well-known source of “AC” hum and noise.

No tv cable, but I'll try disconnecting my speakers and reseating the connections. Thanks for the advice I'll post again after I troubleshoot.
 
Ok so I reseating everything and still no luck. I thought maybe it was a missing screw on the D-Sub connection that could have been causing it because when I unthreaded the cable that came attached to it one of the screws stayed on the monitor end of the connection. That did not work either. The only other possibility is that there is AC noise coming from the outlet or the circuit in my home. As long as there isn't anything wrong with the monitor itself I'm keeping it. Is there a possibility that something could be wired wrong in the monitor? I know it sounds unlikely but you never know. Thanks.
 
sounds like the monitor is garbage, send it back and get one that doesnt have arbitrary movement in any of the corners.
 
hmm I dunno. I got pretty lucky by getting one with no dead or stuck pixels and no backlight issues. I don't want Dell to have to send me a new one if there is not really a problem...
 
what are you talking aboot. theres obviously a problem, theres scrolling bars. i wouldnt accept that on a 750 dollar monitor even if you did use coupons and got it for less.

If you have an ATI card, in the driver software there will be options to reduce the DVI frequency and a alternate DVI operational mode, try them.

If none of the stuff works send it back, it shouldnt be hard to get it replaced.
 
No ATI card here, 6800GT instead. Maybe I should call and complain anyway.
 
try using the dvi cable and not the dsub
i had the same problem with the dsub cable
 
Sorry for not clarifying. I am using the DVI cable, I just had to remove the D-Sub cable because it came connected to the monitor. When I removed it one of the screws/bolts stayed on the cable instead of the back of the monitor. I put it back on the monitor but that made no difference. (I thought maybe there was some weird grounding issue that could have been going on with that screw missing). I just connected the monitor to my computer upstairs and the lines went away, so I am suspecting the outlet in my basement to be at fault as BillR suggested. I am going to pick up a battery backup unit tomorrow with active power correction to hopefully alleviate this issue once and for all.

edit: can anyone recommend a good battery backup or surge protector that will clean my power ?
 
You might also have a bad power supply that came with the monitor, possible allowing noise in that way. Call Dell and "attempt" a troubleshoot.
