How would 5.7lbs compare to 6.5lbs when carrying around a laptop at school? And how does screen size increase bulkiness like 14.1" to 15.4"?

And finally, how do the backlights differ from 14.1" to 15.4", would the extra inch or so cut into battery time much?

I find the weight difference between my laptop and the 15.4" version pretty noticeable. There isn't any real improvement in battery life, but a 14.1" notebook is more convenient for portability, at least in my case.
 
Well, from the reviews I've read, the batterylife for the 15.4" laptop is 2hr50min on the standard 6cell battery, with an option for a 9cell.

And the 14" has only a 2hr battery life, and I believe the only battery for the particular model is 6cell.

I'm not a weakling or anything, but I'll be carrying it around all the time. The battery life does look very appealing though.
 
I've been carrying around 10# plus laptops for years now and I can say a good proper fitting backpack makes more of a difference then anything else. If you can get a backpack that sits well on your back you can carry a heavier laptop without ever noticing the extra weight.
