I am running a website on windows 2000 server iis. Its been running like this for over a year with a page that just said coming soon. I made a new page on Friday and put it on the server. As of yesterday, Sunday sometime the page stopped working. I am looking at the computers and the mail and web servers just do not find our domain. Does anyone have any ideas of what could have happened?

I don't know which version of IIS we are running, which I just realized was a horrible horrible mistake. Now that I am thinking that's probably what happened, are there any good free or cheap web server programs to use instead, that will run on Win2k server?

Apache is the de facto choice for hosting (60+% market share) and is completely free. Runs great on Windows.

before you go off blaming IIS, you really need to check some basics first, like whether the IP address of the webserver has changed, whether any recent firewall changes have blocked port 80, whether your DNS name has expired..etc.

I was only beginning to blame IIS, since I thought someone else was taking care of the web server, but they weren't. It turns out the dns name server we had through network solutions changed to a different dns server. Which it took me a couple of calls to find some of this stuff out.
