i hadn't exactly planned it but i came across htdig, dunno if anyone is familiar with it but it's basically a search function for your website that crawls it and indexes all your pages. it seems pretty cool. up til now i made a php class for searching my mysql database where the majority of the content for the site is. that works fine for the main page, but you can't search user's homepages, i'm in charge of the math/cs dept's website at my college and all the faculty have homepages. htdig makes it so one can search their sites as well which will be extremely useful. i would be curious if anyone has any experience/advice with htdig and also any other suggestions for other search programs. as i said, without really looking for it, i just happened to come across it and i haven't done any furter searching.

well i've finished integrating ht://Dig search into the site
http://mathcs.muhlenberg.edu/search

though i like my sqlsearch class, it really wasn't adequate. it couldn't search user sites which is important since most of the faculty have course info and whatnot on their sites.
