Having a window in the side of my case is so blase...

I have been considering putting in a wide angle web cam so I can see what's going on inside. Anyone done this before? If so what is the hot setup?

just take a picture of the inside of your case and pretend its a live feed from a webcam.

a webcam in your case, pointing out into your room would be a better idea.

Does stuff usually happen inside your computer? I really can't see why anyone would want to watch nothing happen inside your computer.

I bet that guy who had a rat explode inside his case wishes he had a webcam in there :p

it would be like watching paint dry, or watchin grass grow, nothing happens inside your computer that you cant see from the window, really the only moving parts you see are the fans

A better idea is to make the window and put the camera where no one can see (or think there is a camera) and record what's going on in your room.

Well thanks for the info, but I have a H20 cooled case and would like to watch what is going on in there occasionly. Since I'm putting the case under my desk it is difficult to see what is going on even if it had a window.

You would have to have a light, and even if you have CCFL's already those would likely be too bright to see anything from the webcam without a ton of glare.

I was just thinking, how [H]ardcore would that be to have a camera in your case broadcasting to a flush mount LCD monitor on the side panel. It would be set up to look just like a case window. People would be doing doubletakes when they realize what they're looking at.

Now that would be sweet!

He could flush mount an LCD and use it as his monitor, with the backround being a pic of the inside of his comp. seen that before, it was sweet.

I have a water cooled PC as well, and I can sit their stareing at it for minutes on end(that's a long time for me). BUT, I can't imagine why you would want to waste the effort of putting in a camera so you can see inside. Their really is nothing going on, you can't even see the water moving.
I agree that the coolest thing you could do would be to make a tiny hole, and stick your camera up to that, and watch what's going on in your room. you could put it on a 6 hour timer, so it would fill up your HD. IT would be very useful if you have a room mate, and don't entirely trust him/her. Be careful about watching it though, you may see something you don't want to :p .

there's a how-to floating around about turing a cheap-o webcam into an infrared cam. i bet that could turn out some neat pics of the inside of a case at various loads/temps.

it's linked on hackaday.com

Heh, that seems awesome. I'd need to get a bigger LCD though.
