I've seen them on other forums for different types of hard to find hardware thats popular at the moment and i think we need one here in the video card section for the latest AGP and PCI-E cards from nVidia and ATI.

It would be nice to have a thread like this stickied so we could all post links when we find them so that others can also take advantage of that find and dont have to spend all day looking themselves.

I think we need to have an availability list for at least the 6800GT, 6800U, X800Pro, X800XT, X800XT PE and the upcoming X850's. We definitely need a list for PCI Express cards anyways because they are hard to find right now. I managed to locate a couple of in stock PCI-E 6800GT's through an availability list on another forum the other day.

Its easy to do. If you find a site(s) selling any of those cards then you post the links in the thread and the thread starter will edit his post so as to keep all the links in order and easy to access.

What do you guys think?

It should be a seperate folder and in that folder have the different cards threads and then if you find the card somewhere then post a link to it .. then it would be easy .. just go to the last page and you'll know where to get the cards.
 
i think thats a damn good idea if you ask me! although if i find a good card, im not tellin' anyone! ITS MINE! just kidding. but yeah, good idea. :D
 
How much maintenace could it require if everyone is supplying their own links?
Not a bad idea for those loking for the high end hard to find cards tho. Would probably be more appropriate in the 'Hot Deals' forum tho.

We have to have some way of keeping the links organized in one post because otherwise you have to look through the entire thread to try and find the one link your after.

And the thread should be here in the video card section. There is no reason to put it in the Hot Deals section because the links are not necessarily "hot deals" they are just links to in stock items which may or may not be selling for a descent price.

That availability list on NVNews has one serious problem. Both the Ultra's and GT's are out of stock at all those places. I personally have called all of those vendors looking for those cards. I have been told the same thing by all of them. Two or three weeks until they get more. Anything they get right now goes to fullfilling backorders.

The regular 6800's may be in stock but I am not sure. I haven't looked.
 
I find this a very interesting idea ... the problem is how do you quite tackle it while also pleasing everyone ? You need to provide sites for people living in the States, Canada, UK , Germany, Australia.

An availablity thread

X number of posts depending on participating countries.

What can be done is for example I control the Canadian availability part.
Someone in the States takes care of the American one.
Someone from UK does UK .. and so on ..


only a set number of threads and if someone in the respective country finds a deal or availability he/she sends a PM to the person who controls the post for the country

Uhh yeah. Right now Newegg carries crap for PCI-Express cards and they price gouge higher than alot of sites do. Not to mention they have no 6800GT PCI-E's in stock. Ever since Newegg became big thier prices have just about always sucked. If it's not a one day sale item on the front page, chances are you will pay too much.

Case in point:

A REGULAR X800 for $400. Not the Pro not XT not XT-PE and not XL for $400+? You've got to be kidding me. That's DOUBLE MSRP and therefore newegg can suck it.
 
Newegg is awesome for products that are readily available but new items that are hard to find are better off purchased elsewhere because Newegg will try and get the most they can out of it considering how popular Newegg is and the fact that lots of people will pay the price they want.
